Uncork Italy Fietri favorites
Dedicato a Benedetta 2015 – Uncork Italy Price €25.00/bottle
100% Sangiovese, IGT, 14.5% alcohol
Only 1,500 bottles produced per year. A balanced, medium-body red with black cherry notes and strong acidity. 22 months in 5hl Oak barrels. 8 months aged in the bottle. Winner of there falstaff award 2019, the Gilbert Gaillard International Challenge and 2019 Decanter silver award.
Our favourite Fietri wine! It could be classified as a Chianti Classico but for marketing purposes, they chose to keep it as an IGT. It means “dedicated to Benedetta” because it was first made in 2012 exclusively for the wedding of the winemakers daughter Benedetta to Raino. The wine, and the marriage, are a great success. The tree represents the dream of Jacob from Genesis 28. Pairs well with pastas, grilled meats and medium aged cheese.

Sangiovese Rose 2020 – Uncork Italy Price €12.00/bottle
100% Sangiovese, IGT, 13.5% alcohol
Only 1,900 bottles produced per year. Strawberry and Raspberry notes with a hint of sage. 6 months in stainless steel and 2 months aged in the bottle. Award from Guida Vino Bio.
This Sangiovese is made from the same grape as the Benedetta but only spends about 8 hours on the skins which gives it a rusty pink color. When we tried it straight from the tank, it had powerful grapefruit notes that fade a little with wine. The perfect summer wine, fresh without sweetness.
Hic et Nunc 2019, Biological (organic) – Uncork Italy price €12.50/bottle
50% Chardonnay & 50% Viognier, 14% alcohol
Only 1,900 bottles produced per year. Fresh, citrus & exotic fruit and floral notes. Structured with minimal vanilla notes. The chardonnay is aged in oak barrels for 6 months and the Viognier is aged in stainless steel tanks for 6 months. After blending they age in the bottle for 4 months.
This wine label means “here and now” – a reminder to enjoy the present, and what better way to do so than with a glass of white wine? It’s made with Chardonnay and the French varietal Viognier which Italians are starting to blend with Chardonnay to make a wine that is tropical and refreshing. Normally we prefer the indigenous grapes but when we tasted this combination, we completely fell in love with it – they were made to be grown here! Because only the chardonnay is aged in third passage oak barrels, it doesn’t have too much of that vanilla flavour and the primary flavours can emerge.
Chianti Classico DOCG Biological (organic) 2018 – Uncork Italy price €16.00/bottle
100% Sangiovese, 14.5% alcohol
Only 5,500 bottles produced per year. Fruity, mineral, structured. Spicy black pepper and juniper with tannic structure but not out of control. Aged for 15-16 months in large oak barrels and 4 months in the bottle. Awarded by Falstaff 2018 and Guida Vino Bio.
The wine with all the right Chianti Classico labels. We like this wine, it’s solid. We actually like it better than the Chianti Classico Riserva! And it’s organic.
Alius et Idem IGT 2011 – Uncork Italy price €19.00/bottle
A Sangiovese, Merlot and Alicante (Grenache) blend, 13.5% alcohol
No longer produced. Soft, spicy wine. Pairs well with first courses and cheese.
This wine is part of the history of the Fietri wine estate and in fact, they don’t even produce it anymore. Merlot and Alicante grow easily in this area, so they used them to prepare the soil for the Sangiovese vines they now produce for their IGT and Chianti wines. These foreign grape varietals offer a smoother wine with herbaceous character that we like and while it doesn’t express the native terroir, it certainly grew well here while it lasted!
The olive oil of Fietri is so. so. good. This is a bright green, very spicy, peppery and delicious oil. Perfect for salad dressings or to drizzle on toasted bread with fresh tomatoes and salt.
